Kiley Winstead

Meet Your Clinician & Experience
My name is Kiley Winstead. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 14 years of experience in this field. I earned my Bachelor’s in Social Work from Providence College in 2008 and my Master’s in Social Work from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 2010. I worked as a clinician in Baltimore, Maryland, for 12 years, primarily at the Kennedy Krieger Institute, before moving to North Carolina in 2022. I am currently licensed in both Maryland and North Carolina. My background includes specialized training in TF-CBT, CBT, ARC, and Motivational Interviewing. For the first five years of my career, I worked with children and adolescents in therapeutic foster care. I have a strong passion for working with folks connected to the foster care system, adoption, and those who have experienced trauma. The next seven years of my career were dedicated to children, adolescents, and adults diagnosed with chronic medical conditions, including degenerative diseases. I worked on several medical multidisciplinary teams. In this role, I also presented to medical students at Johns Hopkins and at an international conference about the psychosocial needs of people with chronic medical conditions. During this time, I was also a contract therapist with Paths for Families in Maryland, providing pre- and post-adoption support to families. With these two sets of populations, I have focused my career on supporting people around anxiety, depression, attachment difficulties, self-esteem, and trauma. When I am not working with clients, you’ll likely find me spending time with family and friends. I enjoy being outside and going for a run. I enjoy traveling to new places and returning to some of my favorites. I also have a strong passion for athletics and the camaraderie that it builds. Being a college athlete myself, I understand the mental load it may have on someone and also the immense amount of joy athletics can bring.

Specializations, Modalities & Services
I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, and trauma; along with attachment or adjustment difficulties, relationship concerns, self-esteem, codependency, stress, life transitions, and the impact of chronic medical conditions. I utilize a person-centered approach while blending traditional therapies like CBT and ACT and helping the client connect the mind and body. I also focus on helping the client connect past experiences to present-day symptoms and work toward a place of growth and healing. I have been trained in CBT, TC-CBT, CPT, and ACT. I meet clients where they are at, let them lead the process, and provide a safe space to explore, grow, and heal.

I’m a Good Fit for Clients Who…
I’m a great match for individuals aged 8 and up who are ready to explore ways to feel better in their lives. This may include processing past trauma, tackling future fears, or dealing with day-to-day anxiety. I would be an appropriate fit if your child or you have experienced trauma, gone through an out-of-home placement, or been adopted. I have a gentle yet clinical approach with my clients and want them to feel heard and safe. I am also here to support children, teens, and adults who are diagnosed with a chronic medical condition or have a family member going through that process. I have worked closely with individuals diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Leukodystrophy, and Spina Bifida. If you’re looking for a supportive space to explore ways to live the life you want for yourself, your child, or family, I would be honored to be a part of that process.
